A beautiful spring day and all we had to do was shoot photos!
A busy winter, but now spring has sprung /
My local regular walking route has been exploding with new growth. Spring is my favorite time of the year, full of newness and potential - but so fleeting!
A visit to Jack London State Historic Park in Sonoma County, California /
I found this place to be very interesting and bathed in beautiful light. I learned a lot about Jack London and Charmian Kittredge London, quite remarkable people. I’ve read some of Jack London’s books, but he was much more prolific than I knew - more to read, including Ms. Kittredge’s writing.
Remembering a 1991 ski mountaineering trip on Mount Sanford, Alaska /
In the spring of 1991, Mark Dale, Dave Gloger, Steve Eastwood, Doug Barlow, Steve Mittendorf and I spent several weeks climbing and skiing the giant Alaskan volcano, Mount Sanford, which anchors the north western edge of the Wrangell-Saint Elias mountains. It was another fantastic trip in a very wild place, offering solitude (although we did meet Dutch solo climber, Arie Korving, along the way), adventure, challenge and surprisingly good skiing conditions most of the time. Great people, great time! Here are a few photos from the trip.
VertFest Photos from 2008/2009 /
When I worked at Outdoor Research, we teamed up with Martin Volken to expand the skimo races he had been organizing. It’s a brutal form of ski racing, combining the endurance for the uphill with the technical ski skills for the downhill.
Here are a few photos from those early races.
