Since Thomas Dambo and team built Pia the Peacekeeper on our home island, we’ve been enchanted by his trolls. This past weekend we visited Vashon Island and caught up with Oscar. Pretty impressive!

In my home district of Ballard in Seattle, there’s another Thomas Dambo troll. Frankie Feetsplinter stands outside the National Nordic Museum and he’s got frequent visitors, even though it’s rumored that he doesn’t much like humans.
Doug Barlow killed in paragliding accident /
Doug was a friend and adventure companion on trips big and small. He was a family man full of positive enthusiasm for life. A stunningly strong skier, he was the reference standard for those who tried to keep up with him. He was a very strong team member on any outing and I very much appreciated his presence on some of my favorite Alaskan adventures - Mount Fairweather in 1990, Mount Sanford in 1991 and Mounts Bona and Bear in 1993.
He is greatly missed.
